How to make a GIF

Upload a video clip or select several images. For video, trim to the section you want and pick a frame rate and width. For images, put them in the order you want them to play and set how long each frame shows. Create the GIF, check the preview and file size, then download it.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a GIF be?
Most GIFs work best under 5–10 seconds. Longer clips multiply the frame count and file size quickly, and most places GIFs are shared (chat, forums, social posts) favor short loops anyway.
What FPS should I use?
10–15 FPS looks smooth for most content and keeps file size reasonable. Use 20+ FPS only for fast motion like sports or gameplay, since each extra frame adds directly to file size.
How can I reduce GIF size?
Lower the width, cut the frame rate, or trim the clip — in that order of impact. If a GIF is already made, the GIF Compressor tool can shrink it further without starting over.
GIF vs MP4 — which should I make?
Make a GIF if you need something that autoplays and loops without a player, like in chat or a forum post. Make an MP4 (via GIF to MP4, or by keeping the original video) if quality and file size matter more.
